Brett C. Templeman, a trial attorney at Lowthorp, Richards, McMillan, Miller & Templeman, P.C., was named the Men’s Grand Champion at the 2014 World Bodysurfing Championships this month.
During the 38th Annual World Bodysurfing Championships, which were held at Oceanside Pier, 350 bodysurfers from California, Hawaii, Oregon, the East Coast, Australia, Brazil and France competed in 12 divisions — eight men’s divisions and four women’s divisions divided from ages 12 to 65 and over.
Mr. Templeman, competing on the South Jetty Swells team, placed first against approximately 275 men in the competition.
“The younger guys were able to swim faster than me, but I selected the best waves and got the best rides,” he said.
“It is similar to being a trial lawyer,” he added. “You need to be very competitive, passionate about what you’re doing and give it your all.”
Mr. Templeman focuses his law practice on representing plaintiffs in the fields of personal injury, wrongful death, consumer fraud and employment law, especially in the areas of sexual harassment and wrongful termination. He also represents property owners, including agriculture clients, in high-value property damage matters.
Mr. Templeman graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of San Diego School of Law. He is a board member of the Ventura County Trial Lawyers Association and an active member of the Ventura County Bar Association and the Consumer Attorneys of California. He lives in Ojai.
